Summary
The Family Law Attorney will lead and manage a pilot legal program which will include a Family Law attorney and one paralegal. The program directly assists survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and dating violence by providing full representation, limited-scope assistance, and legal consultations with family law cases. 

Education and Experience:
Must be a member of the Georgia Bar in good standing, with at least three (3) years of direct experience representing survivors of domestic violence & sexual assault with family law cases. Courtroom experience & litigation is mandatory.

Attorney Requirements

  • Candidates must possess a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and have a valid license to practice law in the State of Georgia
  • Must be a member of the Georgia Bar in good standing with no disciplinary history
  • 1-3 years or more of direct experience representing survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking with family law cases
  • Courtroom & litigation experience is mandatory
  • Having notary certification is preferred
  • Experience working with clients of diverse racial, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Experience working with immigrant population and knowledge of the intersectionality of family law and immigration issues
  • Excellent communication skills, including communicating clearly with a wide range of people to understand, convey, and support the client’s needs
  • Must be empathetic and trauma-informed 
  • The ability to speak at least one South Asian language is highly preferred
  • Must be respectful and responsive to cultural beliefs and practices within the  client’s community
  • Strong collaborative skills
  • Ability to derive creative solutions
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to executing the job with excellence
  • Organized and able to prioritize clients’ needs effectively
  • Demonstrated excellence in legal research and writing

Raksha Paralegal (ELSI)

Job description & Details: Raksha Paralegal (ELSI)

Summary: The full-time Paralegal will support the Raksha Family Law Attorney by performing a variety of tasks, such as maintaining and organizing files, conducting legal research, and drafting documents. 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate degree in the paralegal studies field or a paralegal certificate. Additionally, the applicant must have a minimum of one (1) year of paralegal/administrative experience.
  • Experience working with and advocating for survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault & stalking is highly preferred
  • Experience working with clients of diverse racial, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Experience working with immigrant population and knowledge of the intersectionality of family law and immigration issues
  • The ability to speak at least one South Asian language is highly preferred
  • Must be respectful and responsive to cultural beliefs and practices within a client’s community
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of people to both understand, support, and convey the clients’ and advocates’ needs
  • Excellent critical-thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Investigative mind and strong research skills
  • Working knowledge of legal database software
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research: Researching laws, regulations, and legal articles relevant to a case 
  • Document preparation: Drafting legal documents, such as contracts, pleadings, and discovery notices 
  • Case management: Organizing and maintaining legal documents, case files, and evidence 
  • Client communication: Interviewing clients and witnesses, scheduling meetings, and calling clients, witnesses, and lawyer 
  • Trial preparation: Assisting lawyer during trials by handling exhibits, taking notes, and reviewing transcripts 
  • Document filing: Filing legal documents with the court, government agency, or opposing counsel 
  • Monitoring legal changes: Keeping track of changes in the legal framework and providing updates
  • Report and receive supervision from Raksha Family Law Attorney
  • Weekly check-ins with ELSI project coordinator (Raksha’s Director of Programs)

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: 50-55K, annually based on experience
  • This will be a hybrid, full-time position. Based on case load, client and court appointments, the paralegal will develop a work schedule after consulting with the staff attorney. The paralegal is expected to attend any mandatory in-person staff meetings, training and other events. Work hours can vary from Raksha office hours of 9am-5pm, Monday Through Friday and may include weekend hours.
  • Raksha offers an extensive benefits program of 100% company paid employee only base medical & dental plan, life and short term disability insurance, FSA and mileage reimbursement.
  • 15 days of PTO and 8 days of vacation in year 1 and 28 PTO and 12 days of vacation for 1-4 years accrued in accordance with company policy (prorated based on date of hire) but increases with years of services)

Raksha Board of Directors :

Job Description & Details

The Raksha Board of Directors is accepting nominations. The Board is responsible for setting policies for Raksha as well as ensuring its financial and operational stability. The Board meets monthly and each member takes a significant role in one or more of the Board’s volunteer committees. The main committees of the Board are Fundraising, Operations, and PR/Outreach. Board members generally serve a six year term. Raksha encourages individuals who have benefited from Raksha’s services to apply.

Qualifications:

  • Have demonstrated one year commitment to Raksha.
  • Have the ability to represent Raksha well and in a manner consistent with our mission
  • Have strong leadership skills
  • Be able to increase community relationships with Raksha.
  • Have previous board experience. Preferred but not required.
  • Have  some experience in  one or more of these areas: fundraising, marketing, family, corporate, or immigration law, technology development, organizational viability, strategic planning, accounting,  non profit management and fiscal management.
  • Have an understanding of Raksha’s work or the issues that Raksha deals with (either through personal experience, volunteer experience, or training).
  • Be committed towards a stronger and healthier South Asian American community and social justice work.
