Raksha & South Asian Working Moms Group are excited to launch the virtual premiere of “Where’s My A?” – a short film that digs into academic expectations and family dynamics in the South Asian community, focusing on the impact on young people.
“Where’s My A?” is a fictional narrative short film that delves into how immigrant children navigate the pressures of cultural expectations such as academic success, while also grappling with the troubling nature of being human.
The film follows Tanvi, a teenager in an immigrant Indian family, who struggles with her mother’s academic expectations and the isolation she feels from her culture for not conforming to traditional norms. As Tanvi reflects on issues like the caste system, her mother’s faith, generational cycles of trauma, mental illness, and the academic pressure of all As, she grapples with feelings of powerlessness and anger toward a world that has stolen her agency.
We sat down for a Q&A with Tanvi Bhandurge—director, star of the film, and a high school student at Walton High—to discuss the film and what she hopes audiences will take away from it, click the image below to watch!
